Emerling Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram to bring jobs to Springville in 2018
By Kimberly LaRussa
The Emerling Family has quite a history in Springville. Maurice (Maury) Emerling sold his first Chevrolet on Trevette Road in Boston along with Massey-Harris (Ferguson) Farm Implements in 1938. In 1944, Maury became a full-franchise Chevrolet dealer. Brothers Carl and Roy Emerling later purchased Emerling Chevrolet from their father. “In 1986, they acquired Lamb Ford Mercury Dealership on Main Street in Springville from Lloyd Lamb,” said Jason Powenski, general manager. “We’ve been steadily growing ever since and there came a point where we needed a facility before going any further and this brought Carl to the decision of bringing a new building to Springville.”
And so Emerling Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram broke ground at 195 E. Main St., Springville on Friday, Oct. 27. When Carl and Roy brought the first dealership to Springville in 1986, they employed 13 individuals. Then in 1989 when Emerling Ford built a brand new 40,000-square-foot facility on Cascade Drive, they had 26 employees and now the dealership has 86. Carl estimates that as Emerling Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram expands at its new location, they will add even more.
“We figure we will add 25 to 30 new jobs over the next few years because we will need more sales people, more office people, more service people, customer relations – pretty much across the board. I also forsee us having a collision shop at this location and we will have to add additional people for that, too. The momentum we have here at the Ford dealership will definitely carry over to the new one.”
Emerling says he is grateful to be able to give the community that he cares for so much an opportunity to thrive.
“To know that we are going to have the newest and most modern facility is very exciting,” said Carl. “We are proud of that that fact and we are definitely building so we have room for expansion down the road.”
The building is estimated to be completed by summer of next year. Employees say they look forward to being part of Springville for many years to come.
“Carl’s big thing has always been community involvement. There’s a lot of giving back to the community with sponsoring local events and charities and it’s a very important part of what he does,” said Powenski.
